This year’s Presidential Inauguration of Joseph Biden appears to be particularly rich in symbolism. Given the numerous challenges facing our country–the pandemic and associated economic downturn, recent events at the Capitol, and cries for racial justice–the Biden team is using great sensitivity and a sense of inclusion in coordinating the events on January 20, 2021.
The National Mall, front and center in the occasion, will have 200,000 flags planted in her soil, representing those Americans who couldn’t attend the inaugural, due to the pandemic. There are 56 pillars of light symbolizing not only the 50 American states but the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories. These pillars will be lit for 46 seconds, honoring the 46th President of the United States Joe Biden.
